Carbon Gardening
All plants sequester carbon. Some much more than others. This can be a fun way of offsetting your carbon footprint that makes your yard look awesome.
Tips:
Deep rooted perennials like trees and shrubs sequester more carbon, and come back every year to sequester more.
Like Perennials annuals sequester carbon in the soil as they grow, but they die each fall and release the carbon back into the atmosphere as they decompose.
Most of these plants flower and therefore improve crucial pollinator activity.
Diversifying plants allows sequestering of carbon at multiple soil depths due to the varied root height.
mulch or cover crops are used to minimize exposure of the soil to harmful uv rays and erosion. They also help the soil retain water and at the same time drain properly.
No till gardening really means loosening the soil and planting without turning the soil minimizing the exposure of microbes to UV rays.
