Should I Recycle

In Short, yes.  Most items in the blue bin are a huge boon to the economy and drastically reduce the amount of fossil fuel emissions and cost of materials.  However, There is a lot of confusion and controversy around blue bin recycling, and we aim to clear it up.  First contamination is the enemy of recycling and inflates the costs and fossil fuel usage.  Metal food and beverage containers, and paper and cardboard are highly recyclable.  However a cardboard box that was left outside and is caked with dirt should probably just go in the green bin.  Plastic is only recyclable to a small percentage.  Here it is important to recycle the highly recyclable types of plastic and it is likely wish-cycling for the rest.  If it is not a food or household goods container then it very likely won't be recycled.  Sorting these items out and hauling them to the landfill is unnecessary fossil fuel usage and simply billed back to you the taxpayer.   So the real question is what should you recycle and what should you just landfill or find another use or recycle stream for.  See our research below.

What should you definitely recycle?

Where can I drop off many of these materials instead?
